Standardbred Racer

Harness racing is still pretty popular here in Ohio and there's always racing at our county fair. I'm more impressed by standardbreds than thoroughbreds because they race longer distances and do it at the trot or pace instead of the gallop.

I've been learning how to pan as I shoot action shots and am rather proud at how well this one turned out. The hardest thing was keeping space for the horse to trot into. I had the camera drive set for continuous shooting at 5 frames per second and this was the best shot of the batch.

UPDATE: In September 2009 this photograph won 1st place in the sports/action division in the Montgomery County, Ohio Fair photography competition. The division had many entries and I was happily surprised to find that I won it.
